【Summary】In the early morning of March 1st, the emergency department of Zhengzhou Central Hospital admitted a 56-year-old patient with chest pain.

Following a significant price reduction in coronary stents, another healthcare initiative benefiting the people was implemented in Henan on March 1st: a substantial price reduction for coronary balloon catheters used by myocardial infarction patients. The province's first beneficiary saved nearly 20,000 yuan in costs.

In the early morning of March 1st, the emergency department of Zhengzhou Central Hospital admitted a 56-year-old patient with chest pain. An electrocardiogram showed "acute non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction." Cardiologists Liu Xinyeye and Wang Jin first used a conventional balloon to adequately pre-dilate the narrowed blood vessel, then used a double-wire balloon to cut, helping restore blood flow to the vessel, and finally performed a drug-eluting balloon angioplasty on the right coronary occlusion lesion.

The surgery was very successful, and the patient's chest pain significantly improved. The patient's family finally felt relieved, and they were even more pleased that the price of the coronary balloon catheter used during the surgery had dropped significantly.

Last year, seven provinces and regions, including Henan and Guangdong, formed an alliance to conduct centralized volume procurement of coronary balloon catheters. On January 29 this year, the Provincial Medical Insurance Bureau announced the results of the centralized volume procurement of coronary balloon catheters in the alliance region, and clarified that the results would be implemented throughout the province starting March 1st.

“Before the price reduction, the unit price of ordinary and drug-eluting balloons was 3480 yuan and 25,000 yuan respectively, and the cost exceeding the medical insurance price limit of 20,000 yuan needed to be paid out-of-pocket. Now, the unit prices of ordinary and drug-eluting balloons are 217 yuan and 12,000 yuan respectively, and they are included in the medical insurance reimbursement.” A relevant person in charge of the hospital said that the quality of coronary balloon catheters will not be affected by the price reduction, and the manufacturers are all well-known domestic and foreign companies, with the same quality as before.
